(Here's a good example of what can be
achieved. Michelle was unable to attend her friend's 10th anniversary and she wanted
something special for her twin sister to say. Michele has kindly given her permission
for her poem and story to be published)
Destined To Succeed
What is your name :
Michele Meyers
Who do you want the poem written for: Ron and
Tina Clark
Why do you want the poem written: It is their
10th Anniversary, and they are renewing their vows on Saturday--having a BIG
party. I introduced them to each other, but I can't make it to the party
because I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, they live in Wilson, New York. In
my stead, I was hoping to have my twin sister or another close friend read a
toast from "me", sort of like me being able to be there.
What are the key messages you would like to send: I did want them to get
together, that was why I introduced them, and thought they'd make a good
couple.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or
otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: After knowing
Tina for a while (she and I met in the fall of 1990) I thought she should meet
Ron Clark, sort of a distant relative/cousin of mine. I remember the first
night that Ron, Tina, my twin sister, Melinda, and I went out. We went to a
place called "Cruisers". Ron danced with each of us and we girls danced
together. It was a really fun time. Then we went to take Tina home, and on
the drive there, it seemed like they were hitting it off. But when we dropped
her off, they hadn't made any plans to see each other again, and let's just
say that their good-bye was less than passionate. Tina didn't say too much
about him. I'm thought that she wasn't impressed w/him at all, and just
didn't want to say so and risk hurting my feelings.
I didn't think it had gone well, and that they didn't like each other. But
about a week later, I found out he was going to her house fairly regularly to
see her. I was REALLY happy to find out that they were still seeing each
other. Tina didn't call to tell, ME, the one that introduced them. She sort
of told me in passing when I called her about something else. Almost like it
was the most natural thing in the world, and didn't need to be a newsflash to
her best girlfriend! After that, I didn't see Tina so much b/c of her new
love. But the next time I saw them was at Pekin Fire Company's Turkey
Raffle. I don't remember if any of us won a turkey, but I do remember
thinking that it was official, they were an "item".
At the beginning of the following year, Ron became very ill, so much so, that
he was in the hospital. Melinda and I drove Tina to the hospital so that she
could visit with him. He was in the hospital for almost two weeks, and then
when he came home, she took care of him and helped him get well.
By that fall, they had decided to get married on Christmas Eve. I went to the
Ripley house where they decided to celebrate after they had taken their vows.
All of their closest friends and relatives were there.
Do you have any
other comments or thoughts: Just to lend insight on Tina and my
friendship. When I met her she was engaged to and pregnant by a guy I had
known, like, a year before. Tragically, he died in a single car accident when
she was six months pregnant. She called me after the funeral (I had seen her
there but didn't approach her) and said she had pictures of Charlie and a girl
named "Michele" and wondered if it was me, and if so, if I would like to have
the pictures. So I went to the house and it turns out the pictures weren't of
me, but Tina and I talked for 3 hours, and became close friends after that.
Raechelle, her daughter was born, and she decided to go to college. I helped
her enroll, drove her there, b/c she didn't have a driver's license. I also
taught her how to drive so she could get her own driver's license, which she
did. So we helped each other out a lot over the years and have been really
close friends through thick and thin.
What style of poem
would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Happy, Funny, Romantic,
Touching
Please choose which package you would prefer:
Deluxe
Do you have any last comments or thoughts: I
would like the poem to be light and funny, w/the overall message that they are
a great couple and it's been great to see them grow over the years.
Destined To Succeed
I'm so sorry that I'm not here today,
and this is one time that distance will keep us apart,
but that still wont stop me sharing,
sharing a few words from my "not so" distant heart.
You see, the reason that I introduced you both,
well, it seemed like destiny that you'd go well together,
and there was the start of your journey,
a journey that'll last forever and ever.
Ron danced with each of us girls at Cruisers,
but there was no passion involved when he said goodbye,
I thought Tina wasn't impressed with Ron at all,
but they started to see each other on the quiet, really quite sly.
Tina didn't call to tell ME that they were an item,
after all, it was ME who organized the Cruisers night out,
she sort of told me in passing, quite naturally, quite casually,
that she was on the road to finding what love is all about.
After that I didn't see so much of Tina,
but she had a different look in her eyes,
it was at Pekin Fire Company's Turkey Raffle,
(and I can't remember if we even won a prize).
But what I do remember is thinking "wow",
she found the man that understood,
because she'd had her share of tragedy,
and Ron would love her like no one else could.
But then, Ron became very ill,
and had to suffer an extended hospital stay,
but Tina was there for him, unconditionally,
and no doubt, helped him down Recovery Way.
By that Fall, they decided to get married,
and dreams do come true on Christmas Eve,
and their close friends and family witnessed it all,
no Santa Claus but their own dream to believe.
And now please fast forward ten years,
it's been so inspirational, watching them grow,
and I just wanted to say "I love you both",
but there's one last thing that you should know:
We've all come through thick and thin together,
and I could go on about those times at great length,
but through adversity we've conquered it all,
and that's where you two have found your strength.
The strength of your love and your conviction,
well, that's a mighty strength indeed,
and whoever would've thought that our little night out,
would have created a marriage, destined to succeed?
Hi Allen,
My sister read the poem at the party Saturday, and Tina & Ron were both very
touched by it. My sister said she got a couple of laughs, too, so it really
went over the way I had hoped.
and then a few weeks later, Tina herself wrote and said;
Allen,
I received my gift of poetry yesterday. My girlfriend, Michelle Meyers, had
ordered it for us for our tenth wedding anniversary. I had to write to you and
tell you how beautiful it is. Every time I read it through, I get teary-eyed. It
reflects a lot of what my husband & I went through as we dated, as well as the
past ten years. It is an exquisite gift, and is one of a kind. I can see that a
lot of thought and work went into it, and I wanted to send you a personal thank
you. I love it, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. You truly
are a wonderful poet....
