Why do you want the poem written: It is our first wedding anniversary, August 12th

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): humorous yet romantic

What are the key messages you would like to send: We have been together for almost 9 years.  Natasha has been with me through a lot.  I want the letter/poem to be heart-felt and express how much I love her and can't live without her.  Moreover, since we have our own home, I can't wait to start our lives together and create a family from our values.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share

: I guess the best thing to do is tell our story.  I will probably add to our memories over the next few days, as they come to me.  We met through a mutual friend.  She first tried impressing me with a home-cooked meal at Jessica's house.  Well, the food was good, but could have been better if she didn't finish the wine before I arrived.  Soon after, I left for school out of the country.  I was glad to keep in touch with her through her warm and heart-felt emails/letters.  Being a really long distance relationship.  We learned a lot about each other without having a physical relationship.  I also enjoyed her surprise visits to the island.  Especially for Valentine's Day, after being sick for almost 2 weeks.  We had a lot great times on St. Kitts, but most memorable was our time spent at "Sunshine's" drinking "Killer Bees" and eating lobster.  One time Natasha wanted lobster so bad from sunshine's, She came on the dive boat with us and got sick to her stomach.  I am sure that the wait and terrible boat ride was worth it.  We also, enjoyed the sunset crusies on "Irie Lime".
As time went on, I realized how loving she was; and, how I wanted someone like her in my life.  When I returned to the States, she moved to Minnesota with me.  Natasha worked 2 jobs to help support us while I was in my final year of Veterinary School.  It was the test to see how we worked/lived together.  Things were great except for the occasional "burning of the pots" making dinner.  When we finally moved back home (New York) I did not give her as much time as I would of liked.  I was so heavily wrapped in my work and paying off student loans, that I rarely saw her.  Now that we bought our first home, I hope to spend more quality time together and build our lives together.  Please mention that "there will be plenty of time for esters in our future".  That is an inside joke. I will probably add to this section with more moments, but you can see how I would like it to be funny yet romantic.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts : as mentioned above, I basically want the poem to tell our story: How we met, our struggles and experiences and now our future.

The Prince and The Princess

Natasha, I'd like to tell you a wonderful story,
I think you'll guess quickly who I'm talking about,
because if I said it was a magical fairy tale,
and it's about a princess, who's beautiful on the in and the out.

Now the prince met his princess through a mutual friend,
for the sake of the tale, let's give her Margaret's name,
and although the prince had a great meal cooked for him,
a nervous someone had drank all the wine, just the same.

Soon after, the prince had to travel to some far off country,
but warm and heartfelt e-mails and letters warmed that land,
and although these two lovers shared a long distance relationship,
there's was obviously nothing physical, you understand.

The prince also enjoyed some surprise visits to the island,
and he was especially excited about Valentine's Day,
and they had some great times together on St. Kitts,
Sunshine's, Killer Bees, lobster, Irie Lime, what more can I say?

One craving for lobster once made the princess quite sick,
but hopefully, it was worth the wait after that horrible boat ride,
but then time moved on and the prince got to thinking:
I couldn't pick a better wife - even if I tried.

He realized just how loving and beautiful the princess was,
but more than that, she was so fun, hip and cool,
and then she moved to Minnesota to be with her man,
and she worked two jobs to get him through Veterinary School.

It was a test to see how they worked and lived together,
and apart from a few burnt pots, everything went just fine,
and when they finally moved back home to New York,
they found a lot of regret in just about every line.

Because the prince did not give her as much time as he wanted,
it's hard being a Veterinarian, striving out on your own,
and sadly, the prince never really got to see his princess,
and never really gave her the love he should have shown.

But now that they have bought their first house together,
they can start to repair the wounds with a stitch and suture,
because they'll spend more quality time rebuilding their lives,
and there will be plenty of time for esters in their future.

And the prince knows he can't live without his princess,
as they've been through a lot in these last nine years,
but he knows they'll create a family from their values,
and they'll be so much more joy and laughter than tears.

And Natasha, the prince wants to say "he loves you",
I guess that's what these words are really for,
here's to you and here's to our first anniversary,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.

Doctor Dylan kindly replied:

"Dear Allen,

Thank you for the first draft of the poem.

It looks great!!!

I love the way you worded the poem, Natasha loves when
I make up stories about us, using the third person
such as "here is a story about a little boy and a
little girl", maybe it would be more personal to us if
you worded that way.  Thank you and yes you can use our
names and poem on your website

thank you again,

 DYLAN HIRSCH DVM "
