- there are no words to express how I feel
Full Name: Brenda Dulin
Who do you want the poem
written for: My husband, Kevin
Why do you want the poem
written: In celebration of our 20th wedding
anniversary
Key messages:
My love and affection for Kevin. Our past, present, and future. My
thankfulness for his gentleness and patience.
Memorable Moments:
The birth of our 2 children: Christopher and Megan. Kevin’s memorable moments
of me: When he saw me for the first time after basic training with the
military and how relieved he felt. He was nervous on how I would respond to
him having very little hair. Of course, I did not care that he had little hair
… just very happy to see him.
Other Comments:
I have always told Kevin that there are no words to express how I feel about
him. While trying to find something unique to give Kevin for our 20th
wedding anniversary (January 21, 2004) on the internet, I came across your
site and thought WOW! Maybe I have found a way to express how I feel about
him. It is hard for me to answer the above questions, so I will just give you
a quick flash of our history. I met Kevin when he moved into the neighborhood.
I was probably 14 or 15, and he was at least 16 since he was already driving.
We knew each other but never noticed one another until he asked me to go to
Disney World with him the day before Christmas in 1981. He worked for Disney
and had free tickets. I could not go with him because I had family
commitments. So, he asked another girl to go but she could not either. I told
him I could go after the holiday. He set a date (I believe it was Dec 27th)
and since he had asked the other girl as well, he brought his younger brother
along to be her date. He took my hand for the first time just outside
Cinderella’s Castle and near the carrousel. Well, that was the start of our
relationship. I turned 17 a few weeks later and he asked me to marry him a few
months later. He lost his father the following December and we were married
Jan 21, 1984. He joined the Air Force in May of 1984. We had our son
Christopher on March 24, 1987 and our daughter Megan March 17, 1991. Kevin is
the love of my life and my best friend. I always look forward to seeing him
and love being near him. I love the sound of his voice on the telephone and
his eyes when he looks at me, and his half smile. Kevin has a humble and
gentle spirit and is so patient. He is a wonderful father and provider. I
could not ask for a better father for my children. His first song to me was
“Open Arms”, by Journey and our favorite movie is “The Story of Us” with
Michelle Pfeiffer and Bruce Willis. He cries at the end of the moving every
time we watch it. We have had our share of ups and downs but we have always
over come them through our love and commitment to one another. Allen, I am
trusting that you will be able to put into words for me how I feel about my
husband. I know the poem will not be finished before our anniversary but I
feel the outcome will be worth the wait.

No Words
Hello, my
wonderful Kevin,
these words are
just for you,
because I’m
proud of who you are
and I’m very
proud of what you do.
I just wanted to
say I love you
and I’m looking
forward to our future times,
I’m proud of the
past, I’m enjoying the present,
in truth, I have
so many reasons for these rhymes.
I’ve always said
there are no words,
there are no
words to express just how I feel,
but just because
the language hasn’t yet been invented ,
it doesn’t make
those feelings any less real.
So, I’m going to
give it my very best shot
and give you my
best, from the very heart,
because really I
just want to say I love you,
now, where on
earth shall I start?
You see, not
only do I love you madly,
I have a great
deal of affection for you as well,
you’re so gentle
and have so much patience,
I love you, (I
hope by now you can surely tell).
Christopher and
Megan are our proudest moments
and as a father,
you are truly great
and I’m so glad
that we’re together,
officially, I’d
like to thank those winds of fate.
I remember when
you’d finished basic training,
you were nervous
because you had so little hair,
but I was just
so very happy to see you,
all I could see
was my man standing there.
You first asked
me out in 1981,
it was Disney
World on Christmas Eve,
I couldn’t make
it because of other commitments,
but ever since
then I’ve had my own dream to believe.
You first took
my hand just outside Cinderella’s Castle
and magically, I
felt then I was going to the ball
and before long
you’d asked to marry me
and then I knew
it, I simply had it all.
We were married
a few short years later
and I’m sure
your Dad was there as well
and I know he’d
be proud of you today,
we’ve come a
long way from that carousel.
Not only are you
the love of my life,
I’m happy to say
that you’re my best friend,
I always look
forward to seeing you
and my joy of
being near you knows no end.
I love the sound
of your voice on the telephone
and when you
look at me, I see the smile in your eyes
and you are such
a humble and gentle spirit,
although really
this should come as no surprise.
Because you have
always given me “Open Arms”
and the “Story
of Us”, always makes you cry
and I know we’ve
had our share of ups and downs,
but together, we
get through it (or at least we try).
And “try” is
what I have feebly done,
I’ve tried but I
was right, no words exist,
just know that
you’re Cinderella’s dream come true
and there’s not
a single moment I would’ve missed.
And I just
wanted to say Happy Anniversary,
I guess that’s
really what these words are for,
here’s to you
Kevin, you’re wonderful
and here’s to us
sharing many, many more.
So, when all is said and done,
there are simply no words left to
be said,
so I’m just going to have to show
you my love
and I’ll give you one big hug
instead.
