A Unique Anniversary Gift

A great idea for any anniversary, A Gift of Poetry

is a truly special way of expressing your

innermost thoughts and feelings.

(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. Kristy wanted something unique for her parents on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Kristy has kindly given her permission for her poem and

story to be published)

BACKGROUND:

Mom and Dad met …………… Mom was a home economics teacher dad was a coach.  Mom was quiet and shy Dad was daring and outgoing.  They married and then adopted me……  Mom always said we did not have you, you were chosen.  She also said that she knew that I was made for them.  Well I may have been chosen but I view it as a gift from God.  That He allowed me to go to Lloyd and Raydean Piguet.  So July  1966 I became Kristina Lee Piguet.

Wow my mom. Is kind and would give and give until she had nothing left to give.  Spent most of her life as a teacher to children, and when she had her accident many of those children as adults gave back.  My mom wore many different hats such as teacher but she also was a taxi driver, or I am sure that is how she felt. Mom drove me to dance lessons for 13 years straight no breaks. She sewed me costumes and drove to competitions in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, even if it made her nervous to drive there.  She never complained never!   She also took me and my friends everywhere in fact I do not remember going with another mom at anytime.  Some favorite times for me were the trips to Disneyland.  Mom would load  me and a friend and one time 6 friends and we would head to Disneyland.  Mom tells the story that the first time she took me and a toddler all I wanted to do was “go home” but that was the only time after that it was “mom can’t we stay longer?”  One thing that me and mom did was go clothes shopping before school started.  I remember just this last year when I went to finish my masters that this did not happen anymore.  I cherish those times.  Mom also made the best Christmas stockings that was always my favorite.  No one can make a apple pie or homemade rolls the way my mom can.

My Dad was also a teacher and he was so popular that almost every weekend for about 2 years we had our house toilet papered.  I just thought it happened to all houses, but no it happened because my dad was so popular.  Dad would take me every Tuesday night for smorgasbord night at Pizza Hut.  Dad hates pizza.  He would tell me that he hoped I would someday get tired of it but I still love Pizza Hut, I think because the memory is so wonderful.  Dad also would take me and some girlfriends to the school and we would play softball.  I have my dad’s glove tucked safely away as a wonderful memory.  Dad was not just my dad he was a dad to many of my friends that were not fortunate enough to have a dad that stuck around.  I can not tell you how many oil changes he did or tune up’s to cars.  Hey no one told me that men were not supposed to fill your car up with gas…my dad always did.  Dad is the best jitterbug dancer I know and I have enjoyed being his partner.

As a family we went many places together.  Dad used to fly us every winter and ever summer someplace.  A few of my favorites, London Bridge, Mesa Verde, Nashville, and Viginia.  I was never afraid when dad was the pilot.  We have gone on many trips to the river and dad would pull behind the boat for as long as we wanted to ski.  We have gone on cruises, trips to Jamaica when they renewed their wedding vows at 40 years.  Trips to Cancun where we had too much fun.  So many wonderful memories.

Mom was in a horrible accident and we thought we would lose her.  But we all prayed and she fought hard.  I have watched my father care for my mother like no man would.  I can see how hard it is at times for both of them but their love has only grown stronger during this time.  What an inspiration and a testimony.

I can not begin to express how blessed I am to have my mom and dad.  They are always there for me in any way that I might need.  They have taught me to work hard, to love the Lord and to care for others.  I wish them the best 50th Anniversary Party ever.  I am so proud of them and the love that they share.

The Reason

Mom was a home economics teacher,
Dad gladly used to coach his days away,
Mom was quiet, Dad; daring, outgoing,
and that one line still leaves a lot to say:

Because they married and adopted me,
I know I was lucky, no supposin',
Mom told me many times over the years,
"we did not have you, but you were chosen".

She also said that I was made for them,
but let me tell you, they gave me their love,
to me, I know they were a gift from God,
know I've been blessed by the heavens above.

'Twas He who led me to Lloyd and Raydean,
since that moment, I've never been the same,
July '66, they opened their hearts,
and I proudly wore the Piguet name.

I guess I was a little like this poem,
all there, but just needing to be arranged,
but I know, there's no rhyme without reason,
and gladly, my life was forever changed.

And it's quite hard to talk about my parents,
they've been there for me, since I was this high,
they mean so much to me, hard to explain.
here goes: I'll give it my very best try...

Wow, my mom! She is just so generous,
she gives until there's nothing left to give,
spent most of her life as a fine teacher,
teaching children how to best love and live.

Actually, when she had her accident,
many of those children, as adults, gave back,
it's nice to know that most of her lessons....
they've helped a lot of people stay on track.

In truth, Mom wore many different hats,
the finest taxi driver on this Earth,
she drove me to dance lessons, straight, no breaks,
after 13 years, Mom, I do know your worth!

She sewed my costumes, drove up and down State,
Las Vegas, Los Angeles, no distance too far,
and Mom, I just wanted to say "thank you",
never said just how wonderful you are.

I know sometimes you were very nervous,
no, never once did I hear you complain,
you took me and my friends everywhere,
best times, Disneyland, again and again.

I soon moved up from wanting to "go home",
just part of me growing up, I suppose,
but I have loved all our times together,
really miss going out, shopping for school clothes.

Dad was also a teacher, popular,
for two years, our house, papered at weekends,
I thought this just happened to all houses,
but Dad was known to his pupils, his friends.

Tuesdays, he'd take me to Pizza Hut,
Dad hates pizza, but I still have the taste,
and he'd take me and friends to play softball,
Dad, I've still got the glove, won't go to waste.

He's not just my Dad, he was my friend's Dad,
some of their Dad's, sadly, didn't stick around,
oil changes, tunes, he'd fill the car with gas,
best jitterbug dancer I've ever found.

As a family we were together,
winter, summer, yes, we would fly some place,
London Bridge, Mesa Verde and Nashville,
never worried, Dad, in the pilot's space.

He'd pull us behind the boat as long as we wanted,
many great times, just too many to list,
just know that every one is precious,
there is just not one that I would have missed.

But then of course, Mom had her accident,
and yes, that could have left her battle scarred,
but Dad cared for Mom like no other man would,
and we all prayed and yes, Mom fought so hard.

Can see how tough it is for both of you,
but your love has grown stronger over time,
an inspiration, a testimony,
thanks for putting the reason in my rhyme.

And I just wanted to say Happy 50th Anniversary,
I guess that's what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom and Dad, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to your everlasting love, for evermore.
