Anniversary GiftA Gift of Poetry makes a superb anniversary gift, as it creates the perfect framework for you to express your innermost thoughts and feelings.
Whether for your partner or for your parents, an anniversary gift poem will make the day an unforgettable experience.
(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. Cindy was going to be celebrating her first anniversary and wanted an anniversary gift for her husband, Eric. Cindy has kindly given her permission for her poem and story to be published)
Alone At Sea
- But Not Washed Up
Full Name:
Cindy
Who do you want the poem written for?: Eric Why do you want the poem written ?: Our first anniversary (November 15) Key Messages: I met Eric just a couple of months after I got divorced from my first husband. I was in no way looking for a relationship, but Eric was funny and really cute. Eventually, I knew Eric was the one for me and I couldn't live without him. When we're not together, I'm not complete. I love us so much. He brings so much joy to my life. Memorable Moments: When we'd only been dating a couple of months, I decided to go on a weekend trip to Brugges, Belgium, (we lived in Germany at the time). I sent him an email and asked him to go. I told him I was going regardless, so it was really up to him and didn't matter to me. Inside, though, I was dying until he said he'd go. We had a great time. We drank a little too much in the Irish pub there and I told him that I was afraid of using the terms boyfriend and girlfriend, but I felt that we were each other's boy and girlfriends. It was a funny chat to remember later. Eric proposed to me at the top of the Eifel Tower at around midnight. I had no idea about it, but later, he told me I'd carried around the ring part of the day because it was in the camera case! The line to get to the very top was really long and we were cutting it short on time. I told him if we didn't make it all the way up, it was no big deal, we could go next time. He kept saying that it was more important to him because he'd been to Paris before and had never gone up. He would be so disappointed if we didn't make it. Anyway, at the top of the tower, it was FREEZING, even though it was July. I was tired and wanted to go down, but Eric kept saying he'd waited all that time and he wanted to go around at least twice. We went around twice, I was asked to go down. He said he wanted to wait. Well, I said, can't we at least go where it's not so cold? He said, no, I like it here. (There were less people). Then, he got down on one knee. I was so confused. He had this cute little speech (w One of the most embarrassing things when we first met -- he was singing the song -- "If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?" And I said no, because I thought he meant would you hold it against me (and be mad). He laughs to this day because he said the song means, literally, would you hold it against me. He brings it up still. Other Comments: Our wedding day was the most wonderful day of my life. So many times I asked him if we could just go to Vegas and get married. He always said no, that I would regret it if we did. He was right. I felt so magical and so loved. During the ceremony, I only remember myself, him and Jamie, our pastor. It was incredible and I hope I can remember it forever. Style: Happy, romantic Package Type: Unique Last thoughts: I live in England, and our anniversary is in less than a month. Will it be able to make it? I sure hope so! Thanks so much!
Alone At Sea
Sometimes life doesn't work out,
sometimes it doesn't go as you'd
have planned,
and like a ship washed up on a
distant shore,
sometimes you end up in a strange
and foreign land.
And that's how it felt for me,
after all, I hadn't been that long
on my own,
I was still working through my
feelings,
I was deciding how it felt to be
all alone.
So I wasn't looking for a
relationship,
but like that ship, I didn't
account for the winds of fate,
and now I'm just so thankful for
those favorable breezes,
because of them, I've finally found
my soul-mate.
And they say: "Any port in a
storm",
but you were my safe haven, my
better place to be,
because in truth, I'd been so
lonely,
and for so many, many years, I'd
been alone at sea.
You were so funny (and so cute),
how could this poor girl resist
your charms?
And now, when we're not together,
I'm incomplete,
the only place to be is in your
comforting arms.
I love you. I love "us" so very
much,
and you bring so much joy to my
life,
and I feel so lucky to have met
you,
I feel so very honored to be known
as your wife.
I remember our weekend in Bruges,
I sent you an e-mail and asked you
to go,
I told you I was going to go
regardless,
The Ice Maiden? How little did you
know!
Because although I said it didn't
matter to me,
I really wanted you to go with all
my heart,
and when we talked about 'boy and
girlfriend' in the pub,
well, thankfully, that was just the
very start.
Because of course we had such a
wonderful time,
and we have done so ever since that
day,
and I love you more than ever,
and I love you in every single way.
Your proposal was so very romantic,
upon bended knee, on top of The
Eiffel Tower,
once I said "yes" I wasn't cold
anymore,
and it mattered not we'd waited in
line for over an hour.
There were so many times when I
said "Vegas",
but you always said "no", you knew
I'd be filled with regret,
and you were so right because our
wedding day was magical,
in fact, it's been my finest day
yet.
During the ceremony, I felt so very
loved,
together, we became the very center
of the earth,
and then I knew just how much I
loved you,
I knew just what a good husband's
love was worth.
And this ship has done its sailing,
because in you, it's found it's
final port,
and I wanted you to know that I'll
love you forever,
and yes, I do have just one last
thought:
Monday nights are so special to me,
I look forward to date night every
week,
and if I know only one thing,
it's "You're my lovely", so to
speak.
And if I said you had a beautiful
body,
would you please, please hold it
against me ?
Because I love you with all my
heart,
and I will do, forever, for all
eternity.

"Allen,
Thank you. I received the poem, my husband
absolutely loved it.
He said it was perfect.
The card was PERFECT. Seriously. Honestly,
I didn't really like the paper styles
(It's probably just me, though.) So, the card
style was beautiful. I told Eric that it was something new and he said
you should keep it up. It was absolutely beautifully presented and I
couldn't have been happier with it.
You're completely welcome to use the story on the web.
