Unique First Anniversary Gift

My Lifetime Lover

What is your name : Wendy Tarrel

Who do you want the poem written for: My Husband - John Tarrel

Why do you want the poem written: It's our first wedding anniversary on August 20, 2006.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Romantic

Please choose which package you would prefer : Deluxe

Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts : Yes

(links open in new window, please allow pop ups)

What are the key messages you would like to send: I am very lucky and happy to be his wife. John adds so much to my life and makes me happy and complete. He fulfils my every need. I love him with all my heart and more. It's been a wonderful first year of marriage and I'm looking forward to many more.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: John and I met at work. We started out as friends, but it blossomed into love. John and I have had lots of changes and challenges to deal with, which has only made us stronger as a couple. A few months after we started dating, I moved to another city (Saint John). For a variety of reasons, I moved back to the same city as John (Woodstock) and we adopted my parents dog, which meant we had to move to a new apartment where we could have a dog. I travelled back and forth from Woodstock to Saint John for work. My Mom was very ill for several months, so we had to help out at my parents, who lived in Saint John, a lot. My mother passed away in October 2004 and we gave the dog back to my Father. After that I changed careers and worked in Woodstock. Then, John and I planned our entire wedding together (the wedding was more special because it was about us, not me). We had an incredibly fun honeymoon at Disney in Florida. They have special hats for honeymooners. When the employees at Disney see you with your hat, they do special things for you, e.g. a special dessert, allow you to open parades and sit in VIP seating, free champagne and a program book at Cirque de Soleil, etc. John wasn't keen on wearing the hats, until we started getting special treatment. Then, he never took it off! John and I had a baby (Jenna) on June 2, 2006, which has changed our lives completely. That's a huge challenge in itself, but one that has brought us incredible joy. All of these events have cemented our relationship.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts : John has been very supportive and continues to be. I've been through a lot the past couple of years and I don't think I would have made it without him. I'm so thankful that he's my husband!

My Lifetime Lover

John, you make me so happy and complete,
and you’ve added so much joy to my life,
I just wanted to say “I’m proud of you”,
I am very proud to be called ‘your wife’.

You fulfil my every wanton need,
and truly, I love you with all my heart,
it’s been a wonderful first year, wedded bliss,
we’ve got ourselves off to a flying start.

Truth, now I can imagine our Golden.
Our children are there with a poem being read,
of course, our grandchildren are also there,
I’m getting too far ahead, enough said.

Because we’ve come a long way together,
we were friends, but it blossomed into love,
now I know I’ve been blessed to have met you,
I know I’ve been blessed by the heavens above.

We’ve dealt with so many challenges,
and they’ve only forged a much stronger team,
and now Jenna has changed our lives completely,
because truly, she has completed our dream.

Look I know it wasn’t that easy,
and Woodstock to Saint John was a lonely road,
we moved apartments, gained and lost a dog,
and at times, we carried a too heavy load.

My Mom's passing brought us ever closer
so we went ahead and planned our perfect wedding day,
as we created it together it was even more special,
and that one line leaves so much to say:

Because Disney was just so much fun,
and even you, eventually, wouldn’t take off your hat,
VIP seating, free champagne, special desserts,
we deserved to be stars, it’s as simple as that.

Because everyone can see the love we share,
it’s like we carry a beacon, an amazing light,
I wanted to thank you for being so supportive,
you’ve put hope in the dawn, from the darkest night.

And now that hope has been passed to Jenna,
and our little girl is our miracle, lo and behold,
and John, I just wanted to say Happy Anniversary,
my goodness! Our marriage is already one year old.

But in that time we’ve grown together,
and I can see our dreams in Jenna’s eyes,
and John, if I said “I love you, I love you madly”
I hope by now, this comes as no surprise.

Because I know I wouldn’t have made it without you,
you’ve meant and sang the song “Lean on Me”,
and John, I just wanted to thank you for being you,
because truly, you’ve made my world a great place to be.

And I’m sure that in the years ahead,
I’ll get to pay you back, one way or another,
because I know our life can’t all be plain sailing,
but I know I'll be sailing with you, my lifetime lover.

Wendy kindly replied:

"Hi Allen

Thanks for getting this to me so quickly.

The poem is beautiful - it brought tears to my eyes.

I only have one statement change. The line about my mom. I don't want it to be too sad. John and I were still dating when my Mom passed away. He proposed a couple months later. But, oddly enough, it was at my Mother's burial that he realized that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life without me. Can you change the current line to somehow reflect that, e.g. my Mom's passing brought us closer or something that you think is appropriate and fits with the verse.
(changed in second draft. Ed)

Thanks so much - this is a very special gift and you made it possible!

Wendy"
