We have marked certain key family events with poems. I wrote this for my nephew Jack on behalf of his grandparents, who had bought him an AA Milne book.
JACK
Hello Jack,
This is your book,
The words are so special,
Go on, take a look.
The animals will appeal,
Including Winnie The Pooh,
Piglet, Eeyore and Kanga,
Let's not forget Rabbit too.
And at the back,
One of my favourite rhymes,
Its on page 413,
And it is called Twice Times.
But enough of the book,
What about you ?
Six pounds of magic,
Born December Twenty Two.
Your Mum was in pain,
For three hours or more,
And for weeks after,
She still felt rather sore.
I guess you know,
Your Dad was born in Chile,
But between you and me,
He was glad you've got a willy !
I wonder what you'll be,
I guess only time will tell,
But one thing that I'm certain of,
So far, you've done rather well.
Love from Grandpa and Grandma Egan,
December 1996.
