Christmas Stockings
What is your Name? Scott Phillips
Who do you want the poem written for ? My sister, Jenny. She is 7 years younger than me and is my only sibling. Why do you want the poem written ? She is getting married to her fiancé Chuck and she asked me to read a poem during their ceremony. I wanted to make something personal, but I have a tough time putting my feelings into words.
What are the key messages you would like the poem to send ?
I've watched you grow up over the years... I'm proud of what you've
accomplished... I will always be there to give you love and support... I wish
you both happiness and the best of what life has to offer
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share ? I remember when she was born, bringing her home from the hospital in a Christmas stocking (she was born on Xmas Eve). I would often baby-sit when Mom and Dad were gone. I was her protector - keeping her from harm and defending her against other kids. I remember the day I heard Chuck proposed to Jenny. I felt both happy and sad knowing she had finally grown up. Do you have any other comments or thoughts ? I was thinking the poem could start out with memories from childhood and then transition into current day. What style of poem would you prefer ? (Happy, sad, romantic etc.) Happy and upbeat, but also from the heart.
Christmas was always my favourite time,
you could feel something special in
the air,
and I just want to look back and remember,
because I have a memory to share.
The greatest Christmas stocking ever,
was not the one filled with my favourite toy,
instead, it was beautifully filled by
you,
and you filled my life with happiness and
joy.
I looked out for you when you were
small,
we've been very close, we grew up
as one,
and I felt both happy and sad when Chuck
proposed,
because then I knew your growing up was
done.
I'm proud of what you've accomplished,
I've watched you grow up over the years,
I've seen you conquer your mountains,
I've even dried some of your tears.
I'm proud of who you are,
and I think that you've made a fine
choice,
so I lift my heart to you now,
and I'll say this in a very clear voice:
I wish you both so much happiness,
and the best of what life has in store,
I wish you plenty of Christmas stockings,
and I wish you love, always and for
evermore.
