How our father has been our rock to myself, my mother and my two older brothers,
how he has always been there, how he is what a true father epitomises, how much
he is loved, and how much he will be missed, but he will live on in us. My
parents have had 50 years of marriage on 29/10/05 and have been totally devoted
to each other and us as children and our families too. Nobody could wish for a
better dad.
An Unselfish Role
This death, it is no good thing,
because it brings about days, such as this,
a memory of a long forgotten moment,
a memory of a tender, loving kiss.
A memory, a falling autumn leaf,
a reminder that life is for the living,
a reminder of great days, now gone by,
a reminder of a hurt, still unforgiving.
But Dad, I wanted to say "I love you",
wanted it said before you left this Earth,
because you've been a mighty fine father,
Dad, I do know your true and honest worth.
I looked everywhere for something unique,
like you, special, to share what's in my heart,
because you've been a rock to us all,
and to lose you, will tear us all apart.
You've been there for everyone of us,
a true father, Dad, you're the epitome,
you are so loved, you will be greatly missed,
you have made our worlds a great place to be.
We could not have wished for a better Dad,
now it's hard, I have to fight back the tears,
as you were totally devoted to Mum,
we're glad you got to share your fifty years.
On a brighter note, you'll get to know first,
the Almighty answer will spring to mind,
and we know that you'll be welcomed there,
because Dad's like you are rare, hard to find.
Just know that you will always be with us,
we'll carry you, in our hearts, in our soul,
and Dad, we all just wanted to say "thank you",
thanks for playing such an unselfish role.

Francesca kindly replied:
"Hi Allen
The poem is perfect, my dad has now been sedated he is
in a coma.
But when we are alone, I will read it to him, and I will
read it
with great pride at his funeral.
Thank you so much for such lovely words
I have no objections of you publishing this poem and
you do not have to change names, it would be a lovely tribute to our dad, if
you need further information please do not hesitate to contact me
Thank you once again" And
sadly, only one week later:
Just to let you know my dad passed away, peacefully in his sleep
yesterday morning at 8.30 am.
It has been 5 and a half months since diagnosis of this cruel GBM
grade 4
We love him dearly, and we will miss him millions, but we are so glad
he is not suffering anymore, and he will live on in us all.
I have attached a photo of us all at my brothers wedding in July '05
and a link to the poem i had written for him by poet Allen Jesson,
which i will read at his funeral on the 26th Nov.

I just wanted to write and thank you for the
poem you composed for my Dad, it was his funeral yesterday and i read
the poem in front of a 100 or so people it bought tears to many
peoples eyes including mine. I was so proud to say those words to my
Dad, the words meant so much to me and to so many others that were
there for my Dad.
It was a great send off for a great man,
husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
