I went to the UK in June 1999 to see my family. This is their poem.
Tempus Fugit
It started as a treasure hunt,
trying to find my childhood years,
remembering the good and great times,
even the half forgotten tears.
It felt good to be home,
it hadn't changed all that much,
it felt good way deep inside,
inside the family's loving touch.
The pubs had got better,
smarter with double barrelled names,
boy meets girl, girl meets boy,
different generation, similar games.
And I'll never forget the cherries,
it was such a happy sound,
a smile on Michael's face,
as he heard "two pounds a pound" !
It was nice to see all the children,
my, how they've grown !
Starting their own adventures,
making some paths their own.
I'd been away from my loved ones,
six longs years had past,
tempus fugit they say,
now I know that time goes too fast.
It was so good to be back,
I truly felt part of the team,
but life is all about choices,
the English or Australian dream ?
And as we clamber over life's rocks,
we shall choose our different ways,
because we are different people,
we were born on different days.
But we have a bond that unites us,
it's unique and it is still so strong,
and I know it will last forever,
'cos you're the words in my song.
