Why do you want the poem written: I'M CURRENTLY DEPLOYED IN IRAQ. IT IS MY FIANCÉE'S HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND I'M GOING TO MISS IT. WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER SINCE 7TH GRADE. I JUST RECENTLY ASKED HER TO MARRY ME, IT WAS JUST BEFORE I LEFT TO COME HERE.

What are the key messages you would like to send: DEDICATION AND HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS OFF. I LOVE HER WITH ALL OF MY HEART. I MISS HER SO VERY MUCH. IN ALL THE YEARS WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER SHE HAS ALWAYS SHOWN ME HOW TO LOOK AT THE POSITIVE SIDE OF EVERYTHING. WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF DRAMA IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS, IF WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH THAT THEN THIS DEPLOYMENT AND ANY OTHER OBSTACLE LIFE THROWS OUR WAY COULD NEVER COME BETWEEN THE LOVE AND PASSION WE HAVE FOR EACH OTHER

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: HIGH SCHOOL IS THE FIRST REAL STEPPING STONE IN LIFE. THERE WILL BE MANY MORE TO COME AND I JUST WANT HER TO KNOW THAT I WILL BE WITH HER, STANDING RIGHT BESIDE HER THROUGH EVERY LAST ONE. SHE IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE, MY WORLD, MY EVERYTHING, MY SOUL-MATE.

This Soldier's Proud

They say that high school is many things,

certainly, it’s the first real stepping stone of life,

and I’m just sorry I’m not there for your graduation,

but I am so very proud of you, my future wife.

I’ll never forget the night I asked to marry you,

I wanted to cement one of the World’s greatest teams,

and the look of love in your eyes said it all,

and I knew I was marrying the girl of my dreams.

Those eyes shone with love, joy and passion,

and that was the look you gave me, when you said “yes”,

and I knew that night would be in my memory forever,

I know we were destined for a lifetime of happiness.

And I also just wanted to say “I’m proud of you”,

all that dedication and hard work means you’ve made the grade,

but I also just wanted to thank you for being you,

I wanted to thank you for the role that you’ve played.

Because you’ve always shown me how to remain positive,

and that’s important, in these troubled and desert sands,

but you’ve always given me so much in life,

including an ear that always understands.

We’ve had a lot of drama in the last 5 years,

and we made it (so this deployment is a walk in the park),

and it doesn’t matter what obstacle life throws at us,

my Universe will always need it’s light, it’s spark.

And that spark is you, Sarah,

for I love you with all my heart and soul,

and with you in my life, I feel complete,

yes, you are the one that makes me completely whole.

And this is just the first of many stepping stones,

I think we should call them “Smilestones” from now on,

because I’ll be there with you every step of the way,

and Sarah, I promise, I will never do you any wrong.

Because truly, you are the love of my life,

you’re my World, my soul-mate, my everything,

and I want you to know this soldier’s proud of you,

and he’s very proud that you’re wearing his ring.
