A Gift that says "I Love You"

I know I'm biased but what better way can there be to say "I love you" than with A Gift of Poetry? Truly romantic! This is just one example of what can be achieved, written from the new born baby to her Dad.

Hello - I Love You Dad

What is your name? Robyn

Who do you want the poem written for? my husband, Jerry

Why do you want the poem written?  We are expecting our first child, a little girl, on March 5th. I know that Jerry will be a wonderful father, because he is a wonderful husband and friend.

What are the key messages you would like to send? I would like the poem to tell Jerry how excited I am to be starting on this journey of parenthood with him, and how lucky our little girl is to have him as a father. He is hard working, and I know he will always do anything he can to make sure that our family has everything we could possibly need or want. He is so concerned with being a good father.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share? Jerry has been anxiously awaiting the impending birth of the baby. He is always asking me if I'm going into labor. Every time that I have any discomfort, he is ready to jump, as if it is the "real thing." During my pregnancy, our little girl has decided to make me a "liar." Every time that I tell him that the baby is moving, so that he can feel, she stops. He teases me that maybe I'm not really pregnant- maybe I've just been eating too much! When we went to our birthing classes, Jerry was so attentive. He remembered more from them than I did! He made me so proud, because I knew that he had been so attentive because he is so excited!

Do you have any other comments or thoughts? Jerry and I have been together for 5 years (married for 2 1/2). We met on a blind date (fixed up by our friend Nicole). Since that first date, we have been together. Everything in our lives has just seemed to fall into place. We had a wonderful wedding, then we bought our dream house. When we decided we were ready for a family, I got pregnant right away. Even though it seems like everything just works out for us, we never take all that we have for granted. Jerry has been my "rock" through this pregnancy. Anytime that I was feeling nervous or anxious, he stayed calm and gave me strength. I know that I can make it through labor and delivery if I have him with me, because I will be able to take all of the strength that I need from him.

Hello

Hello my wonderful father,

these words are just for you,

because I'm proud of who you are

and I'm very proud of what you do.

I also know that you're proud of me,

even more so since I've learned to write,

it was quite difficult scribbling in there,

I wish someone could have turned on the light.

But seriously, I did just want to say "Hello",

it feels good to have finally landed on planet Earth,

and I already know just how lucky I am,

and what a father's love is really worth.

Mom also loves you very much,

I can feel her love for you deep inside,

and I couldn't have picked finer parents,

I couldn't - even if I'd tried.

She knows that you'll be a wonderful father,

because you're already a wonderful husband and friend,

and Mom's excited to be sharing this journey with you

and parenthood is a journey with simply no end.

We both know you're so hard working,

and you'll do everything to make sure we're cared for,

we know you're concerned about being a good father,

don't worry, that's something that'll be with you for evermore!

I know you were anxiously awaiting my arrival,

and you just couldn't wait for the time to come,

so, congratulations, you're now officially a father

(and thanks for holding the hand of my mom).

I'm sorry that I made mom a "liar",

it's just a silly little game that I used to play,

I start moving and then stopped when you felt,

please forgive me, I didn't have much to do all day!

And thankfully, I was not just a bad case of wind,

I will bring you more joy than any summer breeze,

and I think it runs in the family,

because we both like a little tease.

And you did very well in the birthing classes,

actually, you did us both proud,

and you didn't forget to tell mom to breathe properly

but at times, you did have to shout rather loud.

You and Mom are so very happy,

and everything you touch seems to turn to gold,

you don't take things for granted,

so there'll be many more golden stories to be told.

Because together we will share our futures,

and together, we will be one small happy family,

just know that I love my parents very much,

and you both mean the very world to me.

It's so nice to see your proud, smiling faces,

and I'm sorry Dad for making you wait,

just know that I'm proud of you both,

oh yes, there's one other thing I'd like to state.

No baby has ever felt this much love,

and if they have, they were very loved indeed,

and I know I couldn't have nicer parents,

so now, please don't forget my two a.m. feed!

Allen,
I read the poem and it sounds great, except that I am not planning on giving this poem to my husband until after the baby is born. The poem is written from the perspective of the baby now (before being born). I was thinking that this would be a nice present to him for the birth of our daughter.
Robyn

(We changed the perspective in this second draft......).

Allen,
Thanks for making the revisions to the poem. Now it sounds more like what I was looking for. I am ready to have my final copy done. Let me know if there is any more info that you need.

Personal Message (on silver flecked paper):

I want to thank you for all of the love and support you have given me over the years. There is nobody else in this whole world that I would want beside me as I enter this new phase of my life. I love you more than words can say.
Love, Robyn
