A Gift That Says "I Love You" When you want to say "I love you", A Gift of Poetry is a truly romantic way of expressing your innermost thoughts and feelings.
(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. John wanted something special for his wife of 14 years, Elizabeth. John has kindly given his permission for their poem and story to be published)
Wheelie Lucky
What is your name :
JOHN HENRY FOLEY
Why do you want the
poem written: Simply to let my wife know how much i really love her.
We've been through so much emotional turmoil over the past few years.
What are the key
messages you would like to send: The most important message I want to
convey to my wife is, that I would never have been able to get through the
past few years without her support. Both physical and emotional.
Wheelie Lucky
Over the past few years, it’s been like a roller coaster ride, but I know I couldn’t have chosen a finer partner, I know I couldn’t – even if I’d tried.
I know we’ve had our share of emotional turmoil, but life is rarely, if ever, a rose filled dream, but through it all we’ve stuck together, we’ve proved to the World, we truly are a team.
And I just wanted to say “I love you”, but in truth, I didn’t know where to start, so I thought I’d share a few feelings, and give you some words, straight from the heart.
Firstly, I think I should look skywards, and thank those in the heavens above, because I know I’ve been blessed to have shared you, I know that I’ve been blessed with your love.
To be honest, I think we’re both wheelie lucky, because hey! Who says we can’t dance? And after 14 years, where are the doubters now? Those who didn’t give us much of a chance.
I know I’ll never forget that splendid day, how could I ever forget 10th August, 1991? it’s the most special, most precious memory that I have, how could I ever forget when we two became one.
I remember being so nervous, so excited, I just couldn’t help but feel quite ill, and there you were, the proudest, most special day of your life, supporting me (and today, you’re holding me still).
I know I wouldn’t have coped without you, and I’d like to thank you for your unyielding support, I’d also like to thank you for being my teacher, I’d like to thank you for every lesson that you’ve taught.
Because I know I wouldn’t be here today, in the last few years, there’s just been so much pain, but I know if you asked me to marry you tomorrow, to be with you, I’d relive those years, again and again.
Because you’re my rock, my soul-mate, and truly, you’ve been my very best friend, and I know I’ll love you beyond forever, I’ll love you long after our earthbound journeys end.
And our wedding photos are like salt and pepper, I look at them and mixed emotions come flooding back, so many happy memories of such a wonderful day, but when I think of who’s gone, I start to crack.
But then I look back and think of the Mini Metro, and romantically, that’s where we discovered our first spark, at your parents, we'd sneak a cuddle while watching TV, but our favorite moments were spent in the park.
We’d sit for hours just talking, and sometimes the park warden would happen along, but I could’ve told him this way back then, ever since I was 7, you’ve been the words in my song.
For you are my inspiration, my muse, and I love you with all my heart and soul, for with you in my life, I feel complete, yes, with you, I do feel so completely whole.
I know we’ve lost a good few loved ones, but they’re still with us, their spirit lives on and on, and they too want to thank you for your love, because that love has always brightly shone.
I think that’s why we’re wheelie lucky, because our love just keeps on going, around and around, and I know you are my life, my world, and it’s a rare and precious gem that I’ve found.
I don’t think I’ve ever expressed this before, I’ve never really told you just how wonderful you are, but if my love for you were a distance, then it would be further than the furthest star.
So I’ll finish by saying “I love you”, I guess that’s really what these words are for, here’s to you, Liz, you’re truly wonderful, and here’s to us being wheelie lucky, for evermore.

John kindly replied: "Hi Allen. I'm just writing to say a very big THANK YOU! to you, and everyone at "A Gift of Poetry." The poem you wrote for my wife, "Wheelie Lucky", was great! As my wife is away on respite care at the moment, she has asked me to write to you to say thank you on her behalf. Not only that, but on my behalf as well, thank you. I can't thank you enough for the wonderful way you expressed my feelings so well. My wife had a good laugh, which is something she hasn't done very much over the past 12 months. It means so much to both of us. It brought back a lot of memories, some good, some bad. Mind you, I believe that all good poetry should be able to do that. Unfortunately, I don't know many people who are on the internet, otherwise I would pass on your details to them. However, I will certainly spread the word as far as I can. My wife particularly liked the stanza about the mini metro. Not that we did all our courting in the car, mind you! There is still a standing joke about that car, although I haven't had it for some years now. Although I am actually quite ill at the moment, I felt I just had to tell you how delighted we both are. Once again Allan, thank you so much. No doubt you'll be hearing from me again! Many years of continuing success! Best wishes, John Foley."
