The Lesson

I told you when we split,
that I cared enough to let you go,
tried to hide my inner doubts,
tried not to let my feelings show.

I also told you that,
we both had a lesson to learn,
we'd both know it was for real,
if you chose to return.

And now I am so happy,
you've come back into my fold,
I'm happy that I love you,
and that I've got you to hold.

Just hold your arms open wide,
and you won't get your fingers burnt,
because I want you to be so happy,
happiness is what you've learnt.

I cared about you so much,
more than you ever knew,
and I will do everything in my power,
to never, ever hurt you.
