Sparks
Before there was a Universe,
it was so very, very ,very dark,
but all that changed quite
quickly,
and all it took was a tiny spark.
You've been dealt a tough hand,
it certainly wasn't a silver
spoon,
but you can still fly like an
eagle,
you can still fly to the moon.
You need to shape your future,
and challenge your very own
destiny,
because some things just go and
happen,
and some things you make to be.
Now you can choose to be
downtrodden,
and stay their on your knees,
or you can grip the world and its
future,
you really can do just as you
please.
Now the words that I have spoken,
are not some hope-filled
fictitious dream,
but they will never become a
reality,
unless we truly work as a team.
You see, if we stand divided,
then surely divided we'll fall,
but together, united as one,
then all dreams are possible,
large and small.
Now you really have two choices,
and it is very easy to choose,
either try and change the way
that we live,
or simply shrivel up, wither away
and lose.
And time waits for no young man,
tomorrow will never, ever arrive,
the time for action is NOW,
if you want our nation to
survive.
You cannot change the past,
but the future is ours to be
told,
and that future can be glorious,
it belongs to the brave, the
daring and the bold.
And words are just words,
they never amount to much on the
whole,
unless you let them get inside of
you,
and ignite a tiny spark in your
soul.

Michela kindly replied:
Allen,
It's perfect. I think it hits all the points that I wanted to hit, with the
level of intensity that I wanted it to have. Thank you very much. I let
you know how the students react to the poem. Thank you once again.
A few weeks later:
Allen,
Thank you very much for the poem. I
incorporated it in my speech at the Florida Haitian Student Association annual
convention and the students appeared to be very receptive to the message.
Some asked me if that poem was mine originally, and I referred them to your
website. I really do appreciate your help and your talent. I feel that we
have a mission in life to inspire, motivate and educate our youth. I also
feel that we must continue to use different methods to "ignite that spark."
Again, I can not thank you enough for sharing your talent with me and to the
five hundred and odd students that were present at the convention.
With great
gratitude, Michela Pierre
