A Gift of Speech
I know from my own personal experience that
standing up in front of a group of people can be a terrifying experience.
A Gift of Poetry is an
effective way of getting over this problem and is a powerful way to get your
message across. Standing ovations are not unknown!
The Very World
- To the Graduating Class of 2004
What is your name?
Cindy Smith
Who do you want the poem written for? Graduating Class of 2004 Why do you want the poem written? I have been the class sponsor for the last four years with this group of young adults. There are actually two of us. We both have to speak at graduation and i wanted something special. I cannot get it together by myself. I was scared to death taking this position knowing it was so much work. But after a few bumps and bruises along the way, getting to know the kids was a great thing. Do not regret this in any way.
What are the key
messages you would like to send? Just want them to know what a great
time it was getting to know them. Watching the go through changes both
physical and mental) from a scared freshman to a confident and opinionated
senior.
Do you have any
funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would
like to share? Never winning a float competition, always coming
in second. Our Prom build. We spend weeks on building sets for our prom. We
actually reconstruct our gymnasium and turn it into a fantasy place for prom.
We had great time at our car washes.
Do you have any
other comments or thoughts? Want to wish them the best for them in the
future, regardless of what it is.
What style of poem
would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.)
Happy, funny, warming Please choose which package you would prefer: Economy
The Very World
Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should
seize.
And that moment is upon us,
because it's not every day that you
graduate,
so I've got a few heartfelt things
to say,
yes, there's a few words I'd like
to iterate.
Firstly, I just wanted to say thank
you,
thanks to the Graduating Class of
2004,
you've given me some very special
memories,
memories that will stay with me for
evermore.
Initially, I was scared to death to
take this position,
(and I'm not normally the one to
shirk),
but I knew what was ahead of me,
I knew that Seniors could be jolly
hard work.
But after a few bumps and bruises,
(and you always get them along the
way),
I'm proud to be standing here,
and as promised, I'm going to have
my say:
Getting to know you was a truly
great thing,
and to you all, I'll be forever in
your debt,
because you've all taught me so
very much,
and I can safely say I don't have a
single regret.
Watching you change both mentally
and physically,
it was so exciting just to watch
you grow,
from scared freshmen to confident
and opinionated seniors,
(don't worry, there's still a few
things left to know).
And we never won a float
competition,
but there's still pride in coming
second place,
and we had so much fun at the car
washes,
and the prom builds made the gym
our fantasy space.
And when I look back at our time
together,
I'll always have a smile in my
heart,
but there's a tinge of sadness
also,
as you get your new lives off to a
flying start.
That's probably what I really
wanted to say,
I guess that's really what these
words are for,
you have the wings to go to new
heights,
if you believe in yourselves, then
you can soar.
And dream that everything is
possible,
believe in that dream (and make
sure that it's real),
and then want and commit to that
belief,
and then you'll know how mountain
climbers truly feel.
Because the views from the summit
are yours to be had,
and you can all make this world a
better place to be,
but in the meantime, please go
forward with my sincere thanks,
because truly, you mean the very
world to me.

"Thank you, thank you. You
have just made my life a whole lot easier. I am not one to speak very well in
front of a crowd, but this will be just perfect. It is just what i needed.
