Beggared Questions
Hi, I'm just a beggar man,
I'm invisible before your very eyes,
but I still beg of you some questions,
although your answers may come as no surprise.
Why do you just ignore me?
Why are you just a passer by?
Can't you see that I'm down and downtrodden?
Can't you see I've learned how not to cry?
Because truly, I'm simply past caring,
and now I'm just asking for a helping hand,
but as you talk bollocks on your mobile phone,
I know this is one chat you'll struggle to
understand.
Do you know what it means to have nothing?
Truly nothing, with no place to call your own?
Do you know the cold feel of a November pavement?
Do you know what it feels like to be truly alone?
Do you know how dark and dank the gutter is?
And how hard it is to get up when you're beat and
down?
Do you know the hurt caused by your uncaring looks?
Do you know it's the same in every God forsaken
town?
Do you know that you could make a difference?
Yes, you with the mobile phone, I'm talking to you.
Tomorrow, you could change things for the better,
you just have to choose what you really should do.
So, instead of just walking straight past me,
why not just look at me straight in the eye?
Look past the unkempt and downtrodden me,
and see what's really there. (Go on, give it a
try).
Indeed, what you might find may scare you,
truly, it may be like looking into your very soul,
but please don't be scared, be brave, do something,
because only then will you start to feel completely
whole.
I'm not looking for your splendid charity,
although some coin would help to keep this belly
still.
What I'm really after is your respect, your
empathy,
and even more importantly, your might, your will.
Because, you and others like you, can change
things.
Please change it for me (if you don't like what you
see),
and this I sincerely and humbly beg of you,
please help to make this world a better place to
be.
