Like many people before me, and many more to come I guess, I have often pondered the meaning of life. (Why are we here? etc). I have never really come up with a satisfactory answer, but one philosophy that I do have is to enjoy life each day for what it brings and as someone once said;

"Always take time to smell the roses".

The Final Word

I was driving to work,
Just the other day,
And a strange thing happened,
In a funny sort of way.

You see there was a rabbit,
Lying by the side of the road,
It wasn't his fault,
He didn't know the highway code.

And before the sun had,
Had a chance to rise,
A crow had come down,
And had pecked out his eyes.

And as he had laid there dying
With so many words unsung,
He'd looked back on his life,
Then wished there'd been more fun.

And this got me thinking,
There must be more than just this,
Than a job and a mortgage,
Two kids and married bliss.

But thankfully I know a place,
Where the sun joins the sea,
A space where I want to be,
For all of eternity.

There I find a happiness,
And one that is truly mine,
How do you describe the feeling,
Of creating the perfect line ?

I love those beautiful nights,
When I can't put a pen wrong,
They make up for the times,
When the words don't come along.

And some won't see the point,
Of putting words in rhyme,
And the others would say,
It's a total waste of time.

But I want to speak my lines,
And I want to have them heard,
And I hope it is worth the struggle,
To have the final word.

one of your poems (this one) on life for a report I am doing on a abstract noun.  Like the site a lot. Megan"
