"Thanks for being my friend"

Who do you want the poem written for: Kylene

Why do you want the poem written: She is my oldest and dearest friend of 16 years. She has been there for me threw all of life's hurts. She is currently my maid of honor in my upcoming wedding. I want this to be kind of a thank you for being my friend or for never giving up on me when everyone else did or whatever touching thing to come up with. I would like her to cry.

What are the key messages you would like to send: I want her to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I appreciate her and her friendship.. I'd like her to cry or feel special. girly and sentimental.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Wow. After 16 years there are a lot of memories. Lets see...I will tell the highlights and see what you all can do with it. We met in 8th grade. We became instant friends. All throughout high school, we were each others dates to all the dances. Most times, we had more fun getting lost an the way there than we did at the actual function. My mother died when I was a Junior in HS. Kylene was there for me. I went through a period in an abusive relationship. When my family turned there back on me, she was there. God knows how many times she helped me move! Each time I swore I wouldn't go back, she was there for me to help me pick up the pieces when I did and when it all fell apart again. She has ALWAYS been there by phone or mail or in person when my life was falling apart. She has been the only constant in my life in very deep and depressing times. As we have grown up, I moved across the county but our friendship hasn't wavered. We would go to Palm Springs to the condo and we would sit and dream about the kind of life we wished we could have or the kind of man we want. All this while sitting under the stars in the Jacuzzi. Funny enough, I am getting ready to marry that man that I dreamed up so many years ago. And she is my right hand woman! Her mother didn't like me much. Tried to make it so we couldn't see on another...we had to go to school though! I just hope that I have been half the friend that she has been to me.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Hmmm...memories...my favorite memories are those spent at the condo just sharing thoughts and dreams. We have the kind of relationship where we can be in the same room but dont have to talk...we know what the other person is thinking. She is just so unselfish and selfless. I love her SO much. I always have said that when I get my degree, we are going someplace tropical..ON ME!!!

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: I cant think of any now but she is just an awesome person and my life has been so wonderful having her in it and for being my best friend for so long. Condo Stars

Kylene, you've always been there for me,

for 16 years, you've been my truest friend,

and I just wanted to say "thank you",

and I will do so, before these lines have their end.

Because through every single one of my life's hurts,

you've been there for me, right by my side,

and I know I couldn't have picked a finer friend,

I know I couldn't - even if I'd tried.

I wanted to thank you for never giving up on me,

you never gave up on me when everyone else did,

and I wanted you to know that you're truly special,

there you go, my feelings are no longer hid.

Without doubt, I really appreciate your friendship,

in truth, I'd like to thank you for everything you've ever done,

because your friendship has been my light, my inspiration,

in every way, you've been like my morning sun.

And after 16 years, Wow! There's a lot of memories,

there are probably too many to individually list,

just know that each and everyone is simply precious,

there's not one that I would have missed.

We met in 8th grade, we became instant friends,

throughout high school, to the dances, we were the other's date,

and most times, we had more fun getting lost along the way,

we were two happy ships blown along by the winds of fate.

But some times, those winds blew pretty cruelly,

and in High School, sadly, my mother left this planet Earth,

and when I needed you the most, you were there for me,

yes, it was then I discovered your true and honest worth.

Just like when I was in that abusive relationship,

you were there (when my family had turned their backs),

and God knows how many times you've helped me move,

you've been the one to get this train back on her tracks.

Each time I swore solemnly that I wouldn't go back,

but at the time, my head was ruled by a feeble heart,

and you'd always be there to pick up the pieces,

and there were many times when I fell apart.

But you've been the only constant in my life,

you've been there, through the deep and depressing times,

and as we've grown up, I've moved across the country,

but you've managed to put the reason in my rhymes.

Remember, how we'd go to the Palm Springs condo?

We would sit in the Jacuzzi and under the stars, we'd dream,

we'd dream of the perfect life with our perfect man,

and now it's happened, it's him, me and you, the team.

Look, I know your mother didn't like me much,

but she couldn't stop us seeing each other at school,

and I just hope I've been half the friend you've been to me,

and if I haven't, well, it's me that's been the fool.

Because truly, you are my right hand woman,

and I've never said just how wonderful you are,

but if my love for you were a distance,

then it would simply reach a condo star.

Those same stars shine on someplace tropical,

so when I get my degree, we are going, it'll be ON ME,

because you're such an awesome person, my best friend,

and you've made my world a much better place to be.

I really just wanted to say "thank you",

I guess that's really what these words are for,

here's to you, Kylene, you're truly wonderful,

and here's to our everlasting friendship, for evermore.
