A Gift that says: "Thank you" A Gift of Poetry is a truly meaningful way of expressing your innermost thoughts and feelings.
(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. Dierdre had been through a tough time and wanted to say thank you to her therapist, Jeri. Dierdre has kindly given her permission for her poem and story to be published)
Just Like A Mom
What is your name:
Dierdre
Just Like A Mom
When we first met, I was a jigsaw
puzzle,
I was in a million pieces at the
time,
and slowly, you helped to put
"me" back together,
you helped me to the find the
reason in the rhyme.
Jeri, I just wanted to say "thank
you very much",
the largest part of who I am
today is down to you,
just know that I'm very proud of
who you are,
and yes, I'm very proud of what
you do.
You built my self esteem right
back up,
and you taught me that I couldn't
change the past,
you also taught me that the past
was not my fault,
and needless to say, those
lessons are going to last.
You taught me life is good and
worth the living,
you coached me in parental
skills, just like a mother would,
and ever since I've met you,
you've given off such warmth,
it seems that your very soul
emanates only solid good.
You looked like how I remembered
my mother looking,
and I mean that in only the very
nicest way,
you'd always give me a hug when
our sessions were done,
and you always knew just exactly
what to say.
You have given me advice just
like a mom,
even when listening to that
advice was quite hard,
you sat with me as I cried over
things I didn't understand,
you appreciated that I'd become
quite battle scarred.
But all the time you were
carefully nurturing me,
and yes, it was that care that
enabled me to grow,
I grew as a person, as a woman,
as a mother,
and to be honest, there was so
much I needed to know.
Because you showed me that I am a
good person,
and I was doing a great job with
the girls after all,
and it's because of you I walk so
much taller,
in fact, I feel as if I'm about
ten feet tall.
And now I'm proud to be a
survivor,
what hasn't killed me has only
made me strong,
and thanks to you, I've found my
true potential,
but of course, you always saw
that in me, all along.
We met for business purposes (if
you will),
but somewhere in it all, we
became much more than that,
and you've helped to fill the
void I've felt for so long,
and I think you're a genius
(don't argue, it's a matter of fact).
And since I've moved East, you
still talk to me,
in fact, you still give me all
the help that I need,
and recently, I've reflected on
my past and my to be's,
and I've realized you've been a
true friend, indeed.
If it were not for you, my life would not be this wonderful,
and I would not feel so
completely whole,
Jeri, you're such an amazing,
unselfish woman,
I wanted to thank you from the
heart, my very soul.
I couldn't think of a finer
person to light the unity candle,
because Jeri, you've made my
world a great place to be,
and actually, you've been more
than a mother figure,
Jeri, truly, you've been just
like a mom to me.

Dierdre kindly replied:
"Allen, this poem is awesome! You are very talented with words. A gift to many people who have something to say but don't know how. I am sure that some time in the future, I will be calling upon your services again! Thank you, thank you, thank you.. Dierdre"
