Keep Believing

My brother Albert and His wife Marlene had been trying to conceive for approx. 4 years during that time they had 3 attempts at IVF which in itself is a very emotional and turbulent time and experience t go through. Unfortunately for them this did not work and they faced a last resort at having a biological child (only my brothers) by egg donation. There was a waiting list of over 2 years and the only way to jump the queue so to speak was to have an egg donor. I didn't hesitate to offer my help and began the long process involved to donate my eggs into a bank to enable them to take someone else's out. I remember the day they found out they had a donor for them, they were elated but the day was tinged with sadness as Marlene's grandmother passed away the same day but she had a saying she would always say which was 'Keep Believing.' We believed this was some kind of omen because we found out some weeks later they were pregnant and I remember  screaming  the house down with joy, but it was short lived and they lost the baby at 9 weeks gestation. Emotionally and physically they were drained and I cannot appreciate what they must have gone through for so many years but am in awe of their determination and spirit which kept them going and together. So many couples break up having gone through what they did and I admire and respect them so much for sticking together, their love is so strong and inspirational to me. After a while they decided to look into adoption and started the long process. After a year and a half, ups and downs and what must have felt like slow torture they have been matched to a little boy named 'Shane' who is 17 months old. The date they get to bring him home to join our huge extensive family is 26th March 2005 which also happens to be my 30th birthday! What a gift for my 30th to finally be an aunty I couldn't wish for more! The long wait will finally be over I know the joy in their hearts will be overwhelming to say the least. They have just met Shane this week for the first time and words cannot describe how much they are walking on  air and counting the days till they can bring him home.

Can you make the poem inspirational and joyous, I'd like them to know how both our family's are so very proud of them both and know that they will be wonderful parents, Shane is a very lucky little boy to have a Mummy and Daddy like them, although we appreciate the sacrifice someone had to make in giving him up to ensure he had a better life. Can you mention the 'Keep Believing' part from Marlene's Grandmother and somehow show in your words that this is true. Can you include also that they are an inspiration and how much we love them both and cannot wait to have Shane in our family to love unconditionally as well.

Thank you for your time Allen, I really appreciate it more than you could ever know. I look forward to hearing from you and send you more love and best wishes.

P.S One final thought...... could we call the poem  'Keep Believing' ???

Keep Believing

Hello, my new Mummy and Daddy,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.

And I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I didn't know where to start,
so I thought, I'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, straight from the heart.

Firstly, I'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking someone special in the heavens above,
because she told you all to keep believing,
to keep believing in yourselves and this thing called love.

And I know that your journey hasn't been easy,
and at times, it's been more like a roller coaster ride,
but I know I couldn't have chosen finer parents,
I know I couldn't - even if I'd tried.

I feel so lucky to be part of our family,
in truth, I feel like the luckiest child on planet Earth,
and in our short time together, I know your value,
yes, I know exactly what my parent's love is really worth.

Because you never once stopped believing,
you kept going when others would have not,
and I know that together, we're going to be so happy,
trust me, this little boy is very grateful for his lot.

To be honest, it hasn't been easy for any of us,
but to end up here, we'd do it all again and again,
because it was obvious that destiny had plans,
it already knew the Mum and Dad of a boy called Shane.

And they say that all good things come to those who wait,
well, let me tell you, you're the parents I've been waiting for,
and guess what? I already know you're rather special,
and what we share, will keep us believing, for evermore.

 Jamie kindly replied;

"My dear Allen,

I wouldn't change a thing it is perfect and I love the way in which you have written the poem as if from Shane himself something I had not thought of at all. Yet again you amaze me and bring me to tears. Thank you so very much once again. I cannot wait to give them the poem and to see their reaction. I know I've said it before Allen but you truly are a wonderful man with a gift so rare.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,

All My Love To you And Your Family,

P.S. You may use the poem on your site but could you change the names (have done so, Ed) due to the circumstances although I know they wouldn't object to sharing hope with others.
