A Unique Wedding Gift "Many of the people (men and woman) said that they teared up and the single ladies hoped that their fathers would do the same thing for them on their wedding day."
A great idea for every wedding, A Gift of Poetry is a truly meaningful way of expressing your innermost thoughts and feelings.
(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. Werner wanted to say something special to his daughter, Jill, on her wedding day. Werner has kindly given his permission for his poem and story to be published)

Baby Girl
Hello, my wonderful daughter,
I've got a few thoughts that I'd
like to say,
and I don't think I'll get a
better opportunity,
after all, Jill, this is your
wedding day.
And I remember, maybe eleven
years ago now,
where you solemnly gave me
permission to marry your mom,
and through all your dates,
dances, and driving lessons,
I'm very proud of the woman that
you've become.
And I know I'm not your
biological father,
but what we share
is something many have never had,
and you know that I think of you
as my daughter,
and I'm honored that you consider
me your Dad.
I want you to know that I'll
always be your father,
even though with Andy, you now
have a new life,
I know that you'll both be very
happy together,
and I know that you're going to
make a wonderful wife.
They say there's no greater love
than a father for his daughter,
well, unmistakably, I know they
were exactly right,
because although I'm proud and
happy to see you move on,
the sun, tomorrow, will have lost
some of it's shine, it's light.
Because you've brought sunshine
to my every day,
so yes, I am more than a little
sad to see you go,
it's a honor and a privilege to
be your father,
and while I'm here, there's a few
other things you should know.
Andy, watch out!! Jill does have
a mighty fine temper,
and if there's a ding, the garage
wall might get the blame,
but
I cried so after dropping her off
for her first year of college,
so maybe "Baby Girl" should
really be my nickname.
Because Baby, you're no longer a
baby girl any more,
and you look resplendent, with
your wings truly unfurled,
and I know that you and Andy will
be very happy,
and I wish you all the luck, all
the love, in this world.
I hope you two get to dance with
the waves in California,
but if it's in winter, please
remember to take a change of clothes,
but I guess this is not the end
of our memories,
we'll just have to make many
more, I suppose.
Because we've swam with the
dolphins in Cozumel,
we've parasailed and horseback
rode in St. Maarten,
and then of course, I could talk
about Disneyworld,
but we should be looking forward,
not way back when.
Because I'm sure you two have a
golden future,
and you have so many well
wishers, just filling this room,
and Jill, I just wanted to say "I
love you", "I'll miss you",
but let's drink to your
happiness: "The Bride and Groom".

After the wedding, Werner kindly replied: "Allen - So the wedding was on Friday Sept. 2. At the beginning of the reception, I got up to give a speech to my daughter and her (now) husband which I closed with the "Baby Girl" poem. First it was a very emotional time for me and I had to stop and compose myself between verses 5 and 6. But that's not what I really wanted to write you about. All through the night, everyone I met, complemented me on the speech and said that the poem was one of the most beautiful tributes that I could give. Many of the people (men and woman) said that they teared up and the single ladies hoped that their fathers would do the same thing for them on their wedding day. Of course I mentioned that it was the "A Gift of Poetry" web page and you that made it all possible. The poem was a perfect touch to a perfect day. Thank you again. I still get choked up reading it today. Again, thank you for everything and you will be hearing from me again real soon. My parents 50th wedding anniversary is in 6 weeks. Yes, you have my permission to publish the poem on your web page and you do not have to change any of the names. I would like to know when it is published so that I can forward the page to others I know are interested. With all my Gratitude, Werner Howald"
