Oh, How The Years Go By - From Mom to her Step-daughter

Full Name:             Florence

Who do you want the poem written for?: Yael & Ami (stepdaughter & future son-in-law)

Why do you want the poem written ?: Speech for the rehearsal dinner

Key Messages:          That as her stepmother, I have become her friend through the years and that I have seen her grow from the age of 5  into a beautiful 27 year old.

Memorable Moments:     I would like to incorporate these moments:
- She used to brush my hair and wish she was all grown up like me.
- I remember her favorite show was Annie and heard her sing "Tomorrow" a 100 times.
-Went through all the pains of growing up (mine too) and having no boyfriend (even though she was beautiful)
-Survived the moves from SA (San Antonio) to LA, from San Francisco to New York where she finally met Mr. Right
- Could have written a handbook on her many blind dates

Other Comments:        Yes.  The title of the poem will be "Oh, How the Years go By".  It is taken from a song of the same title by Vanessa Williams. I first met Yael (sounds like Noel) when she was 5 years old.  Her parents had just divorced and would see her on Saturdays when her dad would have her.  I'll never forget her beautiful long curly hair and sparkling blue eyes.  I have been through all the ups and downs of growing up with her.  From Annie to Michael Jackson, I went through it all.  She was always wanting to find true love and after college moved from various cities in search of the perfect job and man. She used to get real down when all her friends had that special someone & she couldn't find her Mr. Right.  She was very particular about "her gene pool" and Mr. Right had to have certain qualifications.   She finally met her "perfect match" in New York, a young articulate man named Ami. It was love at first sight for her. They fell in love and now will have an exotic wedding in Costa Rica

Style:                 Happy

Package Type:          Standard

Last thoughts:         I always considered her like a daughter, even though we were more like good friends.  But even though I now have 2 children of my own, she will always be like a daughter to me.  Of course, I would like to end the poem wishing them love & happiness.

Oh, How The Years Go By

In "Annie", "Tomorrow" was a beautiful song,
and it's a song I've heard you sing a hundred times,
and on tomorrow's tomorrow you'll be getting married
and then, all your words will fall into meaningful rhymes.

This is certainly a pivotal moment in your life,
and one that triggers a reflective look at your past,
because I know only too well,
that the years - they can go so fast.

Now when I look back,
I can still see that little girl, then age five,
a little girl full of hope and wonder,
a little girl, just glad to be alive.

Through the years I've seen you grow,
to the beautiful woman that you've become,
loved and respected by many,
a devoted partner and wife to one.

I remember when you used to brush my hair
and you'd wish you were grown up, just like me,
together we'd dream of all our tomorrows,
together we'd wonder just what would be.

I remember those boyfriend-less moments,
even though you were beautiful on the in and the out,
we survived the moves from SA to LA to New York,
that's where you found what true love was all about.

It only seems like yesterday,
I first met you with long curly hair and sparkling blue eyes
and my "Oh, How The Years Go By",
although I guess this should come as no surprise.

I know you were always looking for your true love
and were very particular about your "gene pool",
so it's no wonder that Ami is who he is,
suave, good looking, articulate (and kinda cool).

I've always considered you as my daughter,
even though we are very good friends
and there's a couple of other things I'd like to say,
before these lines come to their respective ends.

Although I now have two of my "own",
you are my blessing, my soul, my heart
and of all the chapters that make up my life,
you've simply been a wonderful part.

I truly wish you love and happiness,
(it's not always as easy as it seems).
I trust you love each other forever
and that you both get to touch your dreams.

We can't wait until Ami breaks the glass,
we'll say "Mazel Tov", with genuine joy,
together we'll look forward to your future
and we won't mind whether it's a girl or a boy!

Always remember the words to the song,
(I think you always will if you try),
just live for today and don't be scared of your tomorrows,
because "Oh, How The Years Go By".

So let us all raise our glasses
and drink to the new husband and wife,
ladies and gentlemen, the toast is,
"L'Chayim"! "To Life"!

Dear Allen,

I received my poem this morning and you proved my husband wrong.  He always thought you were some quack from the Internet with a sentimental poem scam.  Was he surprised when we received your package!

Please feel free to incorporate my poem in your collection.  I think it's the first stepdaughter poem you have done.  I know it will bring many tears to the audience when I read it at the rehearsal dinner.  I still can't read it without shedding a few tears myself, but I think that lends itself to the heartfelt feelings the poem expresses.  You did a fabulous job and thank you for helping make the night special for me and my stepdaughter!

A wedding jewelry gift is a wonderful way to show the happy couple how excited you are for their marriage. A poem is also a very thoughtful wedding gift that any couple would love. While you'll take away a great wedding favor from the wedding, they will take away the happiness and love you've sent their way.
