I believe poetry to be especially spiritual. David wanted his wedding vows to include a passage from the bible, so I turned to Proverbs for inspiration (and went from there).

Proverbs - Inspired Wedding Vows

A4: We are having our wedding blessed after being baptized as Christians in the Baptist church and will be having our two boys Lewis and Aaron dedicated afterwards.

This poem will be used as my wedding vow to Sharan.

Q5: What are the key messages you would like the poem to send ?
A5: Thanks to the Lord for Sharan being sent to me and entwining our destinies and for giving me two beautiful boys.

A6: Being saved on the 9th March this year at Coningsby Baptist Church. Thanks to Cath and Justin and Sharon and Neil for always being there. Thanks to all our new brothers and sisters for their love and support in the years to come.

Proverbs

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,

but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life

and I am so happy and thankful to the Lord,

because He sent to me such a beautiful wife.

Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous,

good shall be repaid,

I must have done something so wonderfully right,

because I have found a love that is truly heaven made.

The wise woman builds her house,

but the foolish pulls it down with her hands,

I'm so glad that I've met a wise woman,

a woman who always gives me an ear that understands.

The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways,

but a good man will be satisfied from above

and I know I'm not truly worthy of this joy,

but I thank my lucky stars for being blessed by your love.

A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance,

but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken,

but my heart soars like a bird

and I hang off every word that you've ever spoken.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge,

but the heart of the fool does not do so,

so I'll love you today, tomorrow and for always

(and wisely, that's something you needed to know).

Righteous lips are the delight of kings

and they love him who speaks what is right,

so I'd like to thank you for my two beautiful boys

and standing there, they do make a simply wonderful sight.

Pride goes before destruction

and a haughty spirit before a fall,

so thankfully we were saved on 9th March,

I'm glad we had the sense to answer the Lord's call.

Thanks to Cath, Justin, Sharon and Neil,

you've been there when it mattered the most

and thanks to all our new brothers and sisters,

we've got a whole new family of which to boast.

We can feel their love and support

and can already sense it in the years to come.

Thanks are also due to Lewis and Aaron

and of course, to their wonderful Mum.

Because, together we are one family,

with our destinies forever entwined

and a love like ours is so precious,

it's rare, it's a treasure, it's hard to find.

So, thanks to you all, thanks to the Lord,

I think He has certainly played his part.

He has been our inspiration, our guiding light

and He gave me the joy and words that fill my heart.

And with that heart, I will love you forever,

that's my sincere proverb to you,

you make me feel like the proverbial,

so with blessed thanks, I happily say "I do".

What can I say? Absolutely brilliant. Just a last minute thought I was originally married in a civil ceremony on 25th Oct 1997 does this now mean I have two anniversaries to remember!!.
