The Newspaper Man
Times they are never easy.
In fact, they are mostly tough,
but you can be anything you want,
if you wish hard enough.
You've got to look after yourself,
because you're the number one,
become the focus of your love,
and don't stop loving 'til you're done.
These wise words will serve you well,
and should become your life's plan,
because they come from a lucky chap,
let's call him The Newspaper Man.
Brian didn't realise he'd had a stroke,
when he woke up one morning,
in fact, that's why he is so lucky,
because he got off with a warning.
Twenty years at 'Stitches,
too many hours and nice hotels,
he didn't see the warning signals,
he didn't hear the warning bells.
But as he lay in his hospital bed,
surrounded by cards and flowers,
he had plenty of time to kill,
had to while away the hours.
And he has always done for others,
just doing what he can,
and so for his bedridden fellows,
he became The Newspaper Man.
He has always had compassion,
naturally it's just been a gift,
happy helping others,
giving other people a lift.
So everything for a reason,
everything I guess is meant,
and I truly believe,
this was a happy accident.
Because now he knows that people care,
more than he would've ever known,
people have demonstrated their love for him,
their feelings, they have shown.
So now its less stress,
and exercise every day,
he's cutting down on the beer,
and relearning how to play.
So this year can be anything he wants,
and you can see it in his eyes,
and indeed, you will see him at the Final,
shouting and singing; "Go The Pies !"
