Eulogy Poems
"Allen, I love it...it is exactly what I wanted...a definite gem to add to our collection and memories of our beloved dad and spouse....many thanks..."

Sadly, 4 years ago, 'Frenchie', Eric and Jay's Dad, passed away. Approaching the first anniversary of his death, Teresa, his wife, got in touch and asked if I could write something for the boys, a sort of inspirational message from the grave, from
'Frenchie', their Dad. That first poem was called 'Family Pride'. I then wrote 'Burning Bright' the year after and now 'Finest Cup' completes the trilogy. I have included the request word for word, along with the poem itself....I think it's a good example of just what can be achieved, not just for the happier moments in life, but also for the sadder and more reflective moments too....

What is your name ?
Teresa Ramirez

Who do you want the poem written for ? My sons Eric and Jay

Why do you want the poem written ? June 11, 2011 will be the third anniversary of their dad passing

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.) ? Happy and Sad

Please choose which package you would prefer ? unique

Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts ? no

What are the key messages you would like to send ? Jay is 12 and ERic is 16...I want for them to know that their \"Frenchie\" is watching them play sports... Eric was moved up to the Varsity Football team (one of 3 sophmores on Varsity)..he had a terrific season as a wide receiver...he had some spectacular receptions and five touchdowns for our Gladiators and that on those Friday Night Lights that brightest light shining upon the gridiron was Frenchie smiling and simply enjoying the speed, agility and awesomeness of EricO..In basketball, he was on the Junior Varsity (JV) team...he had some impressive hoop shots...JV were district champs...In track..he ran both on the JV and Varsity meets...his speed is spectacular...running like the wind.... Jay is in 6th grade but is learning football, basketball and track to get ready for competitive sports next year...in football he is a linebacker because at 180 pounds and 5 foot 7 what else would a 12 year old be...he\'s a \"beast\" that he gets covered by 3 and even that doesn\'t hold him back...I can hear Dad saying \"Yeah baby\" ....\"That\'s my Jaybird\"...In basketball..Jay is like his dad one of the huskier kids but he can still make those hoops...in Track well Jay is definitly like dad here...he\'s not at the front but he still finishes... I also want for them to know that this is the time when they start looking at the girls.I want advise that a dad would tell his sons about girls and relationships..remember Dad always told them to find someone as beautiful as Mom...respect yourself and others...be friendly...sincere...happy...enjoy each day and don\'t try to experience all right now otherwise you may miss some of the best moments...life has ups and downs but Mom and \"Frenchie\" will never leave you...just look in your heart..(.Eric has really been having a difficult time in this area so I need for him to understand that rejection by one girl is not the end of the world...yes it hurts but he has the strenght to move on so something to this effect) Finally I want for them to know that academics and success in the classroom is one of the most important things their dad wants for them...He always wanted them to attend and graduate from the University of Texas at Austin...to be longhorns...they have the intelligence and savvy to succeed...sometimes they may stumble but that okay as long as they never give up...they maynot be as gifted in all subjects...and getting through math is a little harder since mom cant help them like dad did with math but they can do it...both Eric and Jay are strong in Reading/language arts...they always do well on the TAKS Reading...remember Dad is proud of them and never give up.... And yeah Mom is going to try to teach them to drive...Dad we really need your guidance here...you know mom and her driving...(this is one of those milestones shared by a dad and his sons...my boys wont have that but they will have their dad\'s Ford F250..\"the tank\" as mom has named it...)

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share ?

Do you have any other comments or thoughts ? I guess what Im trying to accomplish with this poem is a dad\'s advice to his sons...You wrote Family Pride for his first anniversary and Burning Bright for his second anniversary...both were perfect and exactly the sentiments I needed...Im really looking forward to this one also...

Finest Cup

They say that eternity is a very long time,
well, let me tell you, the years are flying by,
and I want to explain just what you mean to me,
or at least, I'm going to give it my very best try...

You see, it's been three years since my passing,
yet, the family pride is strong, still burning bright,
and I just wanted to say "I'm proud of you", yes,
indeed, I'm there with you, every Friday night.

In fact, I'm with you every step of the way,
and I know I'm there somewhere, in your thoughts,
so just know that you can turn to me if need be, just
know that your Frenchie is watching, when you play sports.

So, well done Eric for getting on the Varsity Football,
if I'm right, you're one of only three sophmores on the team,
and you had a terrific season as a wide receiver, yes,
spectacular receptions and five touchdowns. What a dream!

Just know that I was the brightest light shining upon that gridiron,
yes, your Frenchie was smiling, enjoying the awesomeness of Eric O,
but then again, your hoop shots in basketball were impressive,
district champs...and on the track, you're pretty quick, did you know?

In truth, your speed is cheetah like, you run like the wind,
but please don't go chasing after those girls, too hard,
if you can find one like Mom, well, you'll be very lucky,
so beware! Because some of them will leave you battle scarred.

But Jay, hopefully, you've a couple of years before that worry,
you're stilll learning football, basketball and yes, the track,
of course, you're a linebacker, what else at 180 pounds? Eh?
But you're a beast and even with 3 covering, they can't hold you back.

So, if sometimes in that shove and grunt, you hear: "Yeah baby",
well, you know exactly where that proud exclaim is coming from,
and if you also hear "that's my Jaybird", well, that'll be me too,
but I also bet that some of those screams come from your mom.

Now, in basketball, sadly, you take after your Dad,
but then again, you still can make those magnificent hoops,
and on the track, there's no denying you've got my genes, but
still, you always finish, like a bowl of your mom's noodle soups.

Talking of soup, I'd better come back to those girls, because
like it or not, they are definitely going to play a role in your life,
so, now's the time for some fatherly advice, so listen good here,
because one day, one of those 'girls', will end up your wife.

So, do unto others as you will have done to yourself,
be respectful, considerate, understanding and kind,
and then you will attract the right type of girl for you,
you'll see (although your mom's a one off, so hard to find).

But I always told you to find someone as beautiful as mom,
and look, that's not going to happen with every single dance,
but be friendly, be sincere, be happy, enjoy each and every day,
don't try and experience it all at once, no, give life a chance.

Because some of the best moments come completely unplanned,
and they may be as simple as listening to when a bird sings,
just know that Mom and Frenchie will never leave you, so,
look deep in your heart, find the joy that every day brings.

And I know that rejection is sometimes hard to take, well,
let me tell you, there are a lot of fish out there, in that sea,
and I know it hurts, but find the strength to move on and move up,
yes, look at me for example, some things are just not meant to be.

But success in the classroom doesn't fall into that chasm,
no sirree, I want you to be longhorns, make no mistake,
you have the intelligence and savvy to succeed, in fact,
there's no stopping either of you, now, where's the brake?

Because that's what you'll be screaming at mom,
especially when she tries to teach you both to drive,
but don't worry, I'll help you with your maths, and
in the 'tank', well, you'll be safe, you'll survive!

So, just know that I'm very proud of you both and
I'm even prouder that you've learned to 'never give up',
so in closing, just know that I love you, my boys, and
in the magical river of my life, you were it's finest cup.
