A letter to your daughter, on her wedding day

A Unique Wedding Gift

A great idea for every wedding, A Gift of Poetry

is a truly romantic way of expressing your

innermost thoughts and feelings.

(Here's a good example of what can be achieved. Pam wanted something special for her daughter for her wedding day. Pam has kindly given her permission for her poem and story to be published)

'Cause, That’s My Girl

What is your name : Pam Kulien

Who do you want the poem written for: My daughter and her Husband (for the day of their wedding)

Why do you want the poem written: I want to give this to them from a momma.  To express my love to them both but also to share the emotion I feel.  All the years being so wonderful, the memories and now she is to marry.  A new stage in life and I want them to feel my love and happiness and pride.

What are the key messages you would like to send: Message from momma to the little girl now grown up.  I would really like somewhere the phrase "Cause, That's my girl" this was said to my baby girl so many times when she would make me proud.  Id smile wide and say it...we are close, so close.  I love her and there were troubled waters along the way but oh how I am so very proud of the woman she has become.  Her heart is so giving...her smile enchanting.  She loves Dan (husband to be) so deeply and now they will begin their lives together and I wish them love and happiness always.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: When she was young she got into sooo much mischief.  Once I had just cleaned the kitchen and I woke up to find her in the kitchen, standing on the chair and there was flour and eggs and rice and sugar in the sink.  she was stirring it with a wooden spoon and as I was about crazed, she says to me precious as can be "Momma I am baking you a cake" her smile melted my heart although there was a huge mess EVERYWHERE.  She was only 3 years old and a day I will treasure always.
Another is; We were snuggling in bed, I needed to get her to sleep so I suggest to her "honey, close your eyes and imagine the image of a fence...imagine cows and they are jumping over the fence.  Count them I say and she gets a real serious look on her face, says ok Mommy and I whisper count....one...two.....three cows over the fence....see them ....then suddenly her tiny hands form into fists and her eyes fly wide as saucers and she says in all seriousness "Momma, it is not working, all I can see are glasses of chocolate milk going over the  fence"  I bust out laughing and learn it was because she was thirsty.

Ahhh and my baby did so love scissors.  She was a climber, she climbed the ladder when grandpa was painting the house...she climbed to the highest shelves to find the scissors.  Well one morning I get up to go to work and there in my closet was every piece of my clothing with tiny little holes and little circles of fabric.  I was so angry but she was so proud that she made polka dots in all my cloths....

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Only other comment is how much I love her and how proud I am of the woman she has become.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy but with many memories and joy of their future now together.

'Cause, That’s My Girl

This is hard for me to express all of my emotions,

“'cause, that’s my girl”, well, it’s her wedding day,

and I’ve got so much love in my heart,

to be honest, I’m not sure what I’m going to say.

Ahhh, my baby did so love her scissors,

and there wasn’t a ladder she wasn't afraid to climb,

and now Momma wants to say a few words,

because you’ve always put the reason in her rhyme.

Theresa, I remember when you were just 6 weeks old,

your grandma babysat, loving you with all her heart,

and now my little girl has gone and grown up,

now, where on Earth can I possibly start?

And although we never had a lot of money

we always took the time to enjoy the simple things in life,

we’d just play in the sand at Salt Water State Park,

(and there’s a great tip for every new wife).

Your heart is so giving, your smile is so enchanting,

you seem to give out love for goodness sake,

but I do remember the time; flour, eggs, rice and sugar,

there was a mess everywhere: “Momma, I am baking you a cake”.

Your smile melted my heart that day,

you were 3 years old and you showed such common sense,

and then there was the time I suggested counting cows,

but there were glasses of chocolate milk going over the fence!

I remember the time you were my little ballerina,

and quite aptly, you named yourself, Princess Starlove,

and that wasn’t at all bad for a four year old,

because I knew I’d been blessed by the heavens above.

We’ve shared so many wonderful memories,

in truth, there’s just too many to individually list,

just know that each and every one is simply precious,

Theresa, there’s not one that I would’ve missed.

You also know all that glitters is not gold,

as you’re beautiful on the inside and the out,

and Theresa, you’ve taught me so much in life,

you’ve taught this Momma what true love is all about.

And I like it that you’re not at all materialistic,

but it’s also nice to see you like the very best,

and I know that’s why you've chosen Daniel,

(Daniel, it’s okay, you’ve already passed the mom-in-law test!).

I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become,

and I’m so happy that you love Daniel so,

and I know you’re going to live lifetimes of happiness,

but there are a few other things that you should know.

We’ve always been so very, very close,

to be honest, you’ve been my very best friend,

and we've always communicated very well,

so there's one last message I'd like to send:

I used to say “'cause, that’s my girl” so many times,

because so often, you used to make me proud,

and now I really want to sing your praises,

I want to get on rooftops and sing them out loud.

I remember smiling wide and saying it so often,

and sure, it wasn’t always a rose filled dream,

but through it all, we stuck together,

we proved to the World we truly are a team.

And June 19th will always be a special day,

although I must admit, the last few weeks have been a whirl,

but today is the first day of the rest of your lives,

and I know Daniel will love you forever ('cause, that’s my girl).

And after the wedding:

"Hi Allen-
Well here it is 5 days after the wedding and I am delighted to tell
you the poem was just perfect.  As the day began things were hectic as
you'd imagine.  After Theresa got her  hair and make-up done we came
to my home to grab a bite to eat.  After lunch I called her outdoors
and gave her the box.  The atmosphere was just perfect and as she read
she chuckled a bit and the tears flowed.  Allen, this poem you wrote
touched all our hearts and will be treasured always.
I just can not possibly express how much joy your poem added to this
glorious day and I thank you with all my heart.

How blessed is this world for having such a genrous man share in this
gift of poetry.

Thank you again and I will be in touch again, no doubt!

Warmest Regards,

Pam Kulien"
